Sheila Booth-Alberstadt
Sheila Booth-Alberstadt has a calling to write children’s book with purpose—books that deliver a message to both the adult and the child. She’s written children’s books that tackle grief and other sensitive topics as part of her mission to create children’s books that portray untold stories of the thousands of children who suffer in dysfunctional environments. In her own words, “Children need characters they can relate to, messages that will bring comfort and hope, and stories that will instill positive behavior. As a newfound publisher, this is my ultimate destination.” With the Maggie McNair series, the author carries on this goal to touch on topics that are common, everyday occurrences in life, including hygiene issues and manners—lessons best learned early in life.Inspired by her own children’s aversion to baths, brushing teeth, cleaning their rooms, and more, Sheila Booth-Alberstadt crafted the character of Maggie McNair. The books essentially remove parents’ “nagging” and shift it into another character, which allows the child who is reading them or to whom they’re being read to relate. We tell our children all sorts of stories and folklore to encourage good behaviors, so why not tell them there are spider homes in knots, stink bug parties, and bug houses in their teeth? The big difference is they just might be!
